I had to really think about giving this Black Diamond a perfect 10, but I couldn’t find a reason not to. It’s some goddamn great Kush. I actually feel kinda stupid for thinking good OG wasn’t around, but this staple by Maven, as well as a few of the brands I’ve reviewed recently, have restored my faith. The only issue I could pinpoint my hate on is the size of the nugs. For the BBN lovers (Big Beautiful Nugs), these won’t satisfy y’all. Its honestly not the prettiest bud, either. There’s strains out there with those deep purple and forest green tones, with clementine hairs coating the flower—this Black Diamond X doesn’t sport any of that. I’ve seen prettier weed. While being frosty like a lit up Christmas tree (‘tis the season), the flower simply looks like some classic OGK. Looks ain’t everything, so take the criticism with a grain of salt because everything else is on point.
The high is by far my favorite part of this smoke. It’s a hard hitting smack upside the dome with just a few puffs. A couch-melter. A humbling experience because I was fucked up trying to function after a few rips from the bong. I felt physically stupid, and that’s a good thing. Euphoric, chilling, and potent effects all throughout the body. A certified classic OGK high. Reminds me of middle school, getting in trouble with friends trying to find any weed possible. This was a time Kush, Pineapple Express, Sour D, and OG Bubba were dominating the market (at least in the Northeast coast). By the time junior year of high school came around, that’s when Runtz and Girl Scout Cookies were making waves to completely change the course of weed. Now it’s all about that candy-gas mix, and that’s cool, too. But nothing beats good OG.
The smell and taste were on par with the high. Strong OG aroma and flavor, not harsh whatsoever, and smoother than most dispensary weed you’ll find collecting dust on shelves. A vintage skunky/gas mix, and it’s hard to find that skunk these days. The skunk here isn’t necessarily strong or overpowering, but it’s present. Black Diamond X is a stinky strain. Like some of the recent shit I’ve written about, this flower reeks up the joint as soon as you twist off the cap. Nothing I love more than shoving my nose in that jar and inhaling deep like some weed fiend. A nug junkie finding his fix.
I was worried Maven might have fallen off from a year ago as I haven’t heard much news coming from ‘em. I was wrong. They’ve been kicking it up a notch after a few award-winning years, and shit like this is what’ll keep them at that “top shelf” category. Real top shelf, not that hypebeast bullshit mirage a lot of new brands come off as while promoting their “exotics.” Maven is elite. The rill dill. Expect more reviews for their weed in 2025.
